The Door Supervisor course is a 6-day programme. Throughout the course, you will gain the knowledge and practical skills required to work in the private security industry, including roles as a door supervisor. The course covers key areas such as working in the private security industry, conflict management, and physical intervention.

First Aid Requirement (Included in This Course)


It is now compulsory for all learners to hold a valid Emergency First Aid at Work certificate before completing the training required for a Door Supervisor or Security Guard licence.

To make this process simple, we include the Emergency First Aid at Work training within this course at no extra cost. This will be delivered on Day 1 of your training, ensuring you meet all requirements before progressing with the rest of the qualification.

Who can do this course?

  • Anyone aged 16 and over can enrol on this course.
  • Learners should also be in good physical condition, as the course includes practical training and assessment in physical intervention techniques.

Candidates are Required to Provide:

  • 2 photographic identity documents; at least 1 document must show your current address and at least 1 document must show your date of birth; OR
  • 1 photographic identity document and 2 documents with their current address on it.

Please note that proof of address cannot be older than three months.


Common Forms of Identity Documents:

  • Signed valid passport of any nationality.
  • Driving licence photo card.
  • UK birth certificate.
  • UK biometric residence permit.
  • Valid EU photo ID card.
  • Current bank or building society statement.
  • Utility bill (gas, electric, telephone, water, satellite, cable).
  • Letter from H.M Revenue & Customs or local authority.
  • Current credit card statement.

As part of this qualification, learners will also complete Emergency First Aid at Work training, which is delivered on Day 1 of the course. This is a mandatory requirement for obtaining an SIA Door Supervisor or Security Guard licence.

Did you know: The persuasive Communication and Conflict Management skills taught in this course can be used professionally and personally when dealing with conflict situations. This stand-alone part of the course is worth more than the price of the course.

How you will learn

The course runs over 6 consecutive days (9am–6pm) and is delivered through a mix of classroom-based teaching, discussion, and practical training.

As part of the course, Emergency First Aid at Work training is included for all learners who do not already hold a valid first aid qualification. This is delivered on Day 1 and ensures all SIA mandatory requirements are met before progressing.

On the final day of your course, there will be 4 multiple-choice exams and a practical assessment.

We understand exams can feel daunting, but there is no need to worry. Everything you need to know is covered during the course, and your trainer will fully prepare you for success.

On the final day of the course, you will complete 4 externally set and externally marked multiple-choice exams, along with various practical physical assessments.

These assessments are designed to test your knowledge and practical skills covered throughout the course.

How to get your Door Supervisor Licence

Getting your SIA Door Supervisor Licence may seem complicated, but it’s actually quite easy! All you need to do is follow the simple steps:

Pass the Door Supervisor Course

The Door Supervisor Course takes 6 days to complete. The training course is assessed by 4 multiple choice exams and practical assessments.

Complete the licence application on the SIA website

The cost of starting a licence application is £184.00 The SIA will get back to you within 25 working days. In rare cases, this can take up to 6 weeks.

Complete identity checks

You will need to verify your identity to satisfy parts of your SIA application, namely your photo ID. The easiest way to do this is at the Post Office. You can also have someone with a British passport, who is not related to you, to sign the back of your photo ID.

Submit application to the SIA 

The SIA will verify your identity and run a background check on your criminal record. If you have lived abroad for 6 months or more, you may be required to provide some supporting evidence.

Receive your licence in the post

  • You are licensed! Your SIA Door Supervisor Licence is valid for 3 years.
