Who can do this course?

The entry requirements for this course are:

  • GCSE maths and English at Grade 4 (C) or above, or Level 2 Functional Skills in English or maths
  • Interview and assessment

Alongside your Access program, if you haven't yet obtained a Level 2 qualification in both English and Maths, you'll need to enrol in an English or Maths Level 2 course in the required subject to support your progression to higher-level study.

Please note that all learners advancing to university must have achieved Level 2 qualifications in both English and Maths, in addition to their main qualification.

What You’ll Qualify With:

  • All successful learners will gain an Ascentis Access to HE Level 3 Diploma in Nursing/Midwifery qualification. Learners must achieve a total of 60 credits for the Diploma, with 45 of these credits being at Level 3 or above.
  • An Access to HE Diploma carries up to 144 UCAS tariff points, depending upon grades achieved. At A-level, 144 points equals 3 grade A’s. You can calculate UCAS Tariff Points for different Grades using the Tariff Calculator.

Tuition Fees

You may be entitled to an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the costs of your Access course. 

Student Finance England, who are responsible for student loans will ‘write off’ any outstanding Advanced Learner Loan balances for your Access to HE course as soon as you complete a higher education course. This means you do not have to repay your Advanced Learner Loan if you progress to higher education and complete your degree programme.

Nursing Bursary for those going on to degree-level courses: Nursing learners starting university will benefit from guaranteed, additional support of at least £5,000 a year to help with living costs. The funding will be given to all new and continuing degree-level nursing, midwifery and many allied health students from September 2020. Read more about how it is expected to benefit more than 35,000 learners every year.

Remember: If you go on to study at university and complete a degree, the loan for your Access course is written off by the government.
